It doesn't matter how much a fabric cost me, or patterns or whatever it is, if it doesn't appeal to me anymore, its OVER, we are through!
But that doesn't mean its not hard.
You see the white fabric in this photo.
Let me tell you, I remember the day as if it was yesterday when I got it.
It was a hot Saturday afternoon in Manhattan, NY when I spotted this white cotton eyelet in the front window of a store in a the garment district 3 years ago.
I just had to have it, I think I was seeing a lot of eyelet in the magazines or something but I bought it and it was NOT CHEAP, but you know how it goes when you fall in love with a piece of fabric and you just have to have it.
Well, this is another reason why I don't buy fabric unless I know what I want to do with it, because I could never find a pattern for this fabric.
I decided to push myself to use it, so I included it with my set 1 collection.
But everytime I see it I just get so TURNED OFF, I have NOTHING for this fabric, I DON'T LIKE TO WEAR ALL WHITE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WAS THINKING WHEN I BOUGHT IT, ALL WHITE DOES NOT LOOK GOOD ON ME.
All the above.
Just sickening. I have been walking around my home feeling so demotiviated and I just said, NO MORE of this, its going to another place Far away from me, WE JUST CAN'T MAKE THIS WORK.
and so its gone, to a much happy place.... I hope.
Stash is GREAT, but the ones you don't like as much anymore is JUNK, CLUTTER and you need to keep it moving, keep what you love, gift the rest. I practice what I preach.
I will post a review tomorrow, I hope you are sewing!

You are so right! I don't like a lot a fabric hanging around being lazy, either. I've always said, "I need clothes – not fabric!"

I had some spring green crepe that I felt exactly the same way about. I finally donated it to iraqi bundles of love and felt soooo much better. My husband is an economist and they have a phrase he often uses "sunk costs are irrelevant", it pretty much means that once the money is spent it is gone and you should get over it. You shouldn't let money already spent and gone effect your actions now. So if you don't like the fabric just move on.

I admit it. I hold on to it all. I'm really fickle. I always think I will change my mind.
You're right though. Keep. It. Moving!

When I go through my fabric stash, sometimes I have to ask myself what was I thinking on some of the fabric. I know how you feel, but I just can't let my fabric go. Maybe one day I will make something with it.

Good for you! I have a hard time with this, but sometimes you have to know when to walk away from something that is a mono killer.

I will say - I do keep crappy "what was I thinking fabric" around to use as muslin material. *But* it would have made you upset to use this expensive material for throwaway test fabric. Time to get rid of it.

This is so true. I have been going through my fabric, patterns, and UFO's these past two weekends and just keeping/putting things in order. I looked at alot of UFO's, kept some and just trashed the rest. I thought as much as I hate throwing this stuff out I'm not going to finish these. I am starting/trying to buy stuff I absolutely love and/or need.

I usually hold on to most of the fabrics I've bought. But in the past few months, I've been tossing. er...donating what doesn't please me. If you're selling the fabric, let me know. But I'll need to meditate on it. LOL
