I enjoy posting these sewing tutorial videos, its so thought provoking.
I think most of us know how to insert an invisible zipper but there is so many ways to do the same thing, it never hurts to see another way of doing a technique right?
I have never pressed the crease open on my zipper with my iron, I probably wouldn't dare just in case the iron was too hot, but then again, I just have never thought about it, I will be trying that next time as she instructed.
And using a longer zipper that is required, is that something everyone does?
I usually just buy the recommended lenght but I see how making you own zipper stop makes it easier to end it where you want.
Enjoy!

For a skirt I would normally start with a shorter zipper, but often the long ones are too long for dresses so I cut them shorter. I do my zip stop on the machine though, just going back and forth a lot. And you should definitely try ironing your zip flat, you can get much closer that way without accidentally sewing over the teeth. I haven't managed to melt one yet!

Hmm I normally just buy the recommended one also. Now I've used a longer one in a pinch and made my own zipper stop but I don't do that often.
I always, always, always iron mine flat. I've not melted one yet. My mom gave me a dvd when I first started sewing that showed how to do it. Been hooked on that way ever since.

I always press my zippers and it really does help! I've not melted one yet.

I always press my zipper also. Thanks for the video.

I have always pressed my zipper. I have heard that it can depend on your machine and invisible zipper foot. I guess some machines have a heavy enough foot to get into that space. I always tried to use the zipper that the pattern calls for but in a pinch I will use a longer one.

I press my zipper flat also and I haven't had any problems with melting the zipper. I buy my invisible zippers in bulk from Cleaner's Supply(http://www.cleanersupply.com/) in 9", 11" and 22" in my basic colors of black, white, cream, navy, dark brown etc. Like AllisonC, I make my zipper stop by machine.

I've always pressed my zipper flat. That's how I learned to install a concealed zipper. I think I first viewed a tutorial on the Sewing Divas Blog.

I've watched at least a million IZ videos, but I'm still not 100% satisfied with my applications 100% of the time. The zipper placement at the seamline is my main problem. Thanks for sharing.

The first time I installed one was without ironing it flat and boy oh boy did I learn something!! I didn't attempt another invisible zipper until a couple years later when someone told me to read the instructions that come with the zipper!!! I felt really silly...it instructs you to iron the zipper tape open!! They're sooooo much easier to install this way!! Now I'm in love with invisible zippers!

Yep.., This is the way I install an invisible zipper. I tried not pressing the zipper. It wasn't as easy to install.
I prefer invisible zippers. Once you get the hang of it, their the easiest to install.
