DISCLAIMER
This is NOT a review of the following pattern, it is my assessment of what went wrong while I was working on it and what I should have done for a better outcome.
My unsuccessful attempt at B5755

Fabric used: Rayon Challis
This morning I tried it on, using two scrap pieces as “the bands” to see how it looked so far before
I started all the finishing.
How do I explain this?
I looked like a huge toilet paper roll.
No, that’s not good enough……
I looked like a huge paper towel roll with fabric sticking out on top and more fabric flowing over my hips on the bottom.
Green fabric was everywhere and NOT in a good way.
There was NO visible waistline; the flounce totally covered that up.
The fabric of the flounce just laid on my boob, dropped off the edge and stuck out like it had nowhere to go.
So, I tried on a fuchsia belt with the dress as a test, I figured the High contrast will define the waistline and make the dress more flattering.
Better, but that freaking Flounce was just like a Pink Elephant in the room, you can try to ignore it but that doesn’t mean it’s not there.
WTF!
From top to bottom, I looked like I instantly gained 20 pounds.
Where in the world did I go wrong?
I tried on a couple of these dresses RTW, they all looked very flattering.
So I grabbed my ipod to see if I still had the photos of the dresses saved.
One look told me everything I needed to know.
Both dresses were made out of JERSEY.
Their flounce is much shorter, the waistline is clearly visible and the skirt has less fabric, is just skims over the hip with very little garters.
WOW.
Instant Headache, how could I have missed that?
I spent the next hour trying to convince myself that I could make it work.
I could take in the excess fabric and shorten the flounce.
Whoaaaaaaaa, woow………
Really?
Who is this person in my head; this is not TOYA talking right now.
In the trash you go.
I’ll make a trip to the mall and get one of those dresses if I really HAVE to have one, it’s NOT that serious.
Have a great day everyone.
