This week I will be reviewing Butterick 5887 - The colorblock knit sheath dress.
Pullover, lined, semi-fitted dress(close-fitting through bust) has seam detail and left side pleats.
I made size 14
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Not quite, the pleats show up more on the one on the pattern envelope.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, these instructions are simple and easy to follow.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
1. I like the ratio of the colorblocked sections
2. I like design of the one sided pleat detail.
3. I like the high neckline
1. It didn't have any shaping, didn't look like the model on the envelope.
Fabric Used: matte jersey
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I cut out 4 inches of length, which almost negated the final colorblock section
I shaped out the pattern, taking off about 2 inches of ease from the sides.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I recommend that you take flat pattern measurement before you start, it didn't work for me straight out of the pattern.
It took me a long time to get it to a wearable silhouette, so I can't recommend it to beginners.
